There’s no denying that the world of work has changed for good over the past year. While some companies have been busy with their employee vaccination programs in an effort to bring back their business as usual, more workers are wanting to shift to remote work permanently.
In this article, we will look into how the pandemic has changed the landscape of work. We will also pose a solution to a common concern of employers. How do they manage their employees’ time and ensure productivity in the new normal?
From working from home out of necessity, more employees now prefer this set-up even after the pandemic is over.
Jessica Weber, a social media marketer, is one of those who enjoy the flexibility of working from home.
“I recently quit my job because I wasn’t going to be allowed to work from home ever again, after proving for over a year that I could be an even more productive, focused, and dedicated employee from home. My new company has promised me flexibility and I’m very excited to get started,” she shares.
In a survey conducted by Ernst and Young, entitled “EY 2021 Work Reimagined Employee Survey,” six out of ten respondents said they will quit their jobs if they are not given post-pandemic flexibility.
Only 15 percent of employees in Southeast Asia would prefer to work in the office full time once local restrictions ease. The majority (32%) would prefer to work anywhere. Others would like to work remotely full time (29%), while others prefer a hybrid work set-up (23%) or a mix of onsite and remote work.
Tang Lay Keng, EY Asean People Advisory Services Leader, highlights the importance of work flexibility post-pandemic, saying,
“The COVID-19 pandemic has caused a major shift in where we work, when we work and how we work. Employers that promote hybrid work arrangements and provide the flexibility for employees to work anywhere and anytime, are ahead of the curve. These employers are likely to have better employee attraction, retention and satisfaction in the long run, which could positively impact the business.”
Employees are not the only ones finding the current setup work for them. Business process outsourcing (BPO) firms in the Philippines are eyeing a long-term remote work strategy. BPOs are now looking to retain a hybrid remote and on-site work model to remain competitive against other outsourcing economies like India.
Louie Benedict C. Hernandez, chair of the Information Technology and Business Process Association of the Philippines (IBPAP), is quoted in a BusinessWorld article, saying,
“We feel (a hybrid model) is going to help with even tapping employees that we can’t reach with our physical location.”
Meanwhile, some technology companies have already announced their long-term remote work plans while others prefer the hybrid system, which works better for them.
With work flexibility becoming more of a norm, an effective timekeeping tool is necessary for all companies. Whether your employees are working in the office, remotely or both, Salarium offers various timekeeping options to make it easier to track time and attendance records.
Salarium provides a hassle-free system, which combines timekeeping, payroll, and payout in one software.

Salarium offers FacePass, which automates your workplace’s safety protocols and at the same time monitors time and attendance for employees without physical contact. FacePass features a facial recognition device that could detect face masks, scan body temperatures, and record attendance instantly.
